MATTOS MEDICAL GROUP

Migraine IV
End migraines and other debilitating headaches with this treatment.

Migraines and other debilitating headaches can completely interrupt your life with excruciating pain, nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sounds.

Let us help you get back on track quickly and avoid long waits in busy ER or urgent care clinics at a lower overall cost!

This IV starts with 1 liter of normal saline to which we add selected B vitamins shown in scientific literature to help drive methylation and oxidative phosphorylation which can be disrupted with migraines. In some cases we also add Toradol—a high-strength, long-acting non-narcotic, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) to combat pain. Two different high-strength anti-nausea medications can also be added to this IV at no additional cost under the right circumstances.

Once you’re feeling better after your custom-designed 45-minute infusion takes place don’t forget to ask our staff for further testing of MTHFR, methylation and associated pathways to help elucidate possible preventive prophylactic treatment to decrease future headaches.

Note: The addition of Toradol and anti-nausea medicine will be decided only after careful review of your medical history by our physicians and are included in the price.

Migraines and other severe headaches are often associated with symptoms such as pain, nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. Patients suffering from these conditions are often dehydrated, and one of the mainstays of urgent emergency room treatment of migraines is aggressive hydration. This, in itself, can be therapeutic and may extinguish your headache.

A recent 2015 review article (1) of the use of vitamins in migraines points to the effective use of B2 (riboflavin), B12 (cobalamin) and B6 (pyroxidine) as having powerful therapeutic effects in migraines. This same article discusses the possible link of these vitamins to the methylation cycle and points to the association of MTHFR mutations with chronic headaches.

MTHFR is Methyl Tetra Hydro Folate Reductase and is a crucial step in the conversion of folate to its active form methyl-folate. When this step slows down, methylation—the generation of carbon (C-H3) groups—slows down. This process is absolutely essential for the development and maintenance of every cell in the body, and when it slows down it may be a contributing factor to migraines in some patients.

In a 2012 review of Emergency Room treatment of migraines in pediatric and adult populations, the use of dopamine antagonists such a metoclopramide showed good results.

In addition, Zofran, Toradol and hydration are established and safe migraine symptom treatments. All of which can be included in this IV after a review of your medical history.

If you suffer from migraines you know that treatment in a quiet, dark environment is best and sleep should be encouraged.
